It's one thing to read some random person's tips, not knowing whether they actual have any expertise in the subject. Rest assured in this case — Dana recently completed her own For Sale by Owner transaction and she has kindly shared all the tips that helped the sale go smoothly.
We've been following along as Dana, from House*Tweaking, has been rehabbing a dumpy old house (The Underdog, as she calls it) and selling her DIY Modern Casual Home in a bid to live a downsized life. Progress on The Underdog has been moving along nicely and, as of a few weeks ago, Dana and her family moved into a temporary apartment after selling their other house. So when Dana says she has tips for a successful home sale by owner, I'm paying attention!
Among the tips offered up in Dana's blog post — House*Tweaking: Sold by Owner:
• Research and set a good asking/list price
• Get a flat fee MLS listing
• Market our home with flyers and signs
• Accommodated all potential buyers
• Offer a commission to the buyer's real estate agent
Now, Dana does admit that selling a house without using an agent is a lot of work but, in the end, it saved her and her husband a chunk of change that they can apply toward their next house's rehab.
