Location: Chicago, Illinois
For our son’s room we wanted something colorful, unique, affordable and playful in a way that is well suited for children, without being too cutesy. We met all of our objectives thanks to plenty of Apartment Therapy browsing, Ikea, and some good ole DIY.
The room itself is the smallest in the house – 8’ X 9’ – but does have a huge window and 10’ ceilings. The dresser/changing station is easily the part that gets the most compliments. It’s from Ikea with Anthropologie pulls, and some wallpaper added for some extra personality (thanks Apartment Therapy for the idea!!). Initially we were a bit worried about the durability of this hack, but now that we’re four months in, our concerns have subsided.
We wanted to be able to darken the room at any time of day so we put in some large blackout curtains. Initially we thought it would make the room feel smaller, but to our surprise it didn’t, and we love them!
