Name: Daniel Paulson
Location: Hollywood Professional Building - Hollywood, California
Size: 1200 square feet
Years lived in: 2 months
Daniel loves his Hollywood loft for its perks and quirks - it is fantastic for entertaining, has great views, is close to restaurants and is in a beautiful historic building. For those not familiar with the Hollywood Professional Building, it once housed Ronald Reagan's office.

Daniel's loft is rectangular in shape with a long wall of windows showcasing the fantastic view. Along the entire wall of windows there is a deep sill, providing a place to sit and enjoy checking out Hollywood Boulevard, downtown Los Angeles, and beyond. It feels as if you are in a private VIP club — the loft even has its own custom bar for late night parties. No need to venture out in Hollywood when you have it all at home!

Apartment Therapy Survey:
My Style: Modern with ever changing contemporary elements.
Inspiration: Water, fire and flow!
Favorite Element: Lighting, lamps and the chandelier I converted from lamps with shades and candelabras to one a kind lamps and "chandelabra".
Biggest Challenge: Making sure everything revolved around the million dollar view.
What Friends Say: "Wow!"
Biggest Embarrassment: The bedroom as it's not complete.
Proudest DIY: Again, lighting...it's one of the most important elements of design and getting it right and making it your own and unique is very important!
Biggest Indulgence: I don't really have any "indulgences," per se. I never indulge as I'm always looking for deals and believe anyone can live in style on a dime and everyone should!
Best Advice: An old wise designer friend in Palm Springs once told me great design is achieved by merging functionality, space and time... I firmly believe this! Also, being a Beverly Hills Housewives fan I think Adrienne Maloof said it best when she toasted "May you find inspiration in the big picture, but may you find love in the details," because great design is all about personal touches and details!! LOVE.
Dream Source: My dreams, I love when I come up with a great idea and make it come to life. That usually consists of heading to Home Depot, Anawalt, etc. on a mission to find all the right "stuff" to design and create my visions. There are many designers not willing to roll up their sleeves because they're too worried their Versace or Gucci might get dirty, or their Botegga Bag may get scuffed....NOT!! Of course I love hitting all the high end shops for furniture and custom goods; however, it's not the reality for today's economy. Shop around at places like Nick Metropolis; find great pieces and have them reupholstered or repurposed, that's today's custom!!

Sprout Side Table
Not fond of a lot of the decor, but the bones of this place are fantastic. Even the hallways are beautiful. Love it!
cool fish tank
it always makes me laugh when people oooh and awe over a vase or bowl i have then ask where i got it - er Ross - they never believe me - but you're so right it's all about timing...and being able to put up with Ross
1. I really like this place. It's a bit bare, but everything looks great in it.
2. Daniel's poses make the space twice as great.
3. What's that thing on the table... A giant tortoise shell?
4. The building lobby is gorgeous.
Very nice for only being there 2 months. Bet your place looks great at night! The large wall with the 3 small mirrors is screaming out for a really large abstract painting with the blues of of backsplash and fish planter. Good job...and you are a doll!
I love the placement of things in the loft, really nice flow especially with the angled sofa... and also the restrained palate and the sense of humor that still manages to be chic. 2 months ? Bravo !
...lately posts are less about home design and more like a single life ad...
Honestly I'm not a fan of the artwork, but I'm in love with the entire bar area and the views! (The owner is also pretty easy on the eyes haha)
Great place, cute guy.
A very spiffy home and locale.
I really really like this. I looked at the tour before reading and loved your lighting, how cool to find out you made/adapted much of it.
So many cute guys this week, and all with great taste!
I love the..er...furry(?) pendant lamps. Anyone know where they're from?
Pardon me--I see they're from west elm. Thanks!
Hi, Can you tell me what brand are the appliances in the kitchen? Especially the fridge.
Thanks!
This is the Seventy46 lofts! Trace Lenhoff of Flipping Out lived here for a bit too. Kind of a hodge-podge of furniture and fixtures
Id be curious to see the bedroom curtains closed. My bedroom is a similar size and window set up and I arranged it in the same fashion. I have been debating floor to ceiling drapes behind the bed to add some interest (and cover up an annoying off center window at night).
ross rules! i recognize the bedroom lamp and the blue circle pillows!
The interior of the loft looks and leaves me cold, but the building and view are fantastic! I love old Hollywood.
Love the kitchen with the dark wood and glossy white counter. The views are fantastic. The decor needs work. It definitely gives off a "single guy" vibe with so much black and leather and not enough well-placed art.
I would love to see this tour again after the owner has really settled into the space. Two months is not very long!
I'm really torn on this...there are some things I love and other things that just make me scratch my head. Love the pendants by the bar...scratching my head about the black canopies on them. The devil is in the details.
That monstrous, mass-produced water feature in the living room is so singularly tacky that it throws the most negative connotations onto every other choice in the apartment.
WTF, Daniel?
Daniel- I love your place. I think you did a very good job. I love the accents you have with the aqua blue and the creative idea of using the fish on the counter for a flower pot. The fish tank is also bautiful. Good job !
Great photographs Marcia!
I like a lot of the individual items, but to me this reads more as a boutique than a home.
I love how AT leads these tours with a photo of the homeowner in their home. These shots are often my favorite. The owner's personality comes through in the picture and then enriches our insight into what we see of their home because we better understand where it is all coming from.
loved this tour. great space with such nice touches. made me miss my hometown!
Love the place, and love it even more with the picture of the hot guy in it!
I agree that the kitchen, the bar, views, and lighting are fabulous. (Love the two pendants!). Not crazy about the fish planter. Also, this apartment is in DESPERATE need of some colorful, original large art pieces, both over the sofa, at the entrance, and then to replace the round mirror in the kitchen (like the round mirror but think there's already too much dark wood and leather tones going on in the whole apartment.)
Please show the tour again when he gets these three critical pieces of art, and maybe a more modern bed and bedding. Love the bathroom vanity though. Also any more pictures of the hot guy are welcome!
Is the fish planter from Ross as well?
Daniel - will you marry me? :) I barely noticed your apartment as I kept going back to the picture of you. :)
Interesting way to design this space. I'm pretty sure I've been in this building and saw alot of these lofts before they were complete. This one feels like a home, not for me but it is well done. Cute guy too and I agree with him about Ross. You can find great home stuff there that is far cheaper than anywhere else. I would check out Marshalls too.
Great pics by the way.
I love those lights above the bar and the use of the fish on the counter. I think it's very well done and yes Daniel is pretty hot!
Where are the discus from? Jack Wattley? Discus Hans?
The loft has great bones. And it seems like a very livable space. It's a man cave...with a view. However, I think there's too much emphasis on dark wood and black accessories. I love the wood ledge next to the window but I would have fewer ceramic pieces and leave most of the expanse bare. Rather than three skimpy black mirrors, I'd choose a painting or photography (but not in black/white).
These Hollywood places keep popping up and it makes me nostalgic...I'd live there again in a heartbeat. (It's the only part of LA I could tolerate living in again.) Great building, and a very glamorous apartment.
Wow! Hard to go wrong in a great space such as this! I particularly like the clean lines of the kitchen area. Kudos on the fantastic home.
Thanks Timothy!!
STUNNING
A man with a fishtank is a man after my heart! Not sure why everyone is hating on this, but I definitely appreciate the adherence to a strict palette and style. Not every interior needs to look like it popped out of Domino Magazine a couple of years ago. Chic masculine modern, loving the darker tones paired with amber accents. I think the most amazing part of this is seeing how much pride he takes in his place and how his feeling of accomplishment inspires him to try more DIY projects. This is truly what a personal space should be--we should feel at home not because our space pleases everyone else but because it incorporates bits and pieces of ourselves. The main picture really says it all. Well done!
Very cool space! I can only imagine the quality of light must be amazing during the day. But, I bet the view at night is also spectacular. Imagine living in a historic building like that? *sign*. Very well done Daniel! Enjoy it.
love it! =)
Um. Can I please come over and sit on your couch and look out the window? Like, for the next few months? (seriously, gorgeous place, all the lines are so clean!)
I like spare and sleek. Very well done here. The windows are used to best advantage. I bet the view at night is fun. Congrats, lots done in a short time.
the views are insane. the apartment is a little too pier one imports meets china town.
