Name: Danny Alias & Jeff Nelson
Location: Lakeview — Chicago, Illinois
Size: 2,300 square feet
Years lived in: 10 — owned
I've been visiting Broadway Antique Market in search of vintage treasures for years. I love that store! So when I was invited into the home of BAM owners Danny Alias and Jeff Nelson, I was thrilled. When I learned that they owned an apartment in the grand old Sheridan Grace Apartment Building, I was even more excited.
Danny and Jeff wanted to live in the Sheridan Grace Apartment Building long before they bought their apartment. They had already been living in the neighborhood and, as lovers of all things vintage, they had their sights set on the noteworthy Lakeview building. Unlike a lot of home buyers at the time, Danny and Jeff were looking for an apartment that was as near to original as they could find. Like I said, these guys love vintage! What they got was a huge vintage apartment with enviable views of both the lake and Wrigley Field that had been only minimally rehabbed.
This vintage apartment has one of the most unique floor plans I've seen in the history of shooting house tours. The Sheridan Grace Building is built on a curve on Lake Shore Drive and as such the floor plans of the apartments are full of oddly shaped rooms. The kitchen in Danny and Jeff's apartment, for example, is literally triangular in shape.
Danny and Jeff's home is full of amazing vintage furniture and art that has been collected throughout the years. This should probably come as no surprise from the team who run one of the city's most well stocked antique shops.

What color gray is that on the walls in the living room.
That daybed piece is AMAZING!
I really enjoy people who care for their home so well. I am proud of them. sincerely, mary
That couch is pretty sweet!
that is the gray I have been looking for. I 2nd needing to know what brand/color it is in the living room.
Also, what color is the trim?
Did you paint the ceiling a different color than the trim?
Before even looking at the artwork and vintage pieces I literally enjoyed viewing the beautiful layout and size of this vintage apartment. The windows, the shape of the kitchen the grand entryway...
Gorgeous. Your vintage pieces fit perfectly and your apartment is truly magnificent. Thanks for sharing.
What a wonderful example of the gracious apartments from Chicago's past. I love the quirky floorplan. The room dimensions are HUGE! The main room in my NYC studio apartment is smaller than the dining room.
Please tell me that that is a poster for The Terror of Tinytown. If so, I tip my hat to you, Sirs.
3rd request for the grey paint color in the entryway/foyer!
This is vintage at its best. Absolutely love the artwork throughout the house.
I think it is, maggskh! So amazing.
Also, this apartment is so inviting! And such a welcome break from the mid-century modern parade. I would love to be invited here for dinner.
Lovely, just lovely. Vintage still rocks!
Although I'm not a huge fan of that style of furniture, I think they did a bang-up job at having a theme, sticking to that theme, and decorating the home very well.
So bravo to that.
BAM is the best. I don't know why it never occurred to me that the owners must have a really amazing home. This goes in my AT Hall of Fame. Thanks for a fun tour on a particularly rotten day in Chicago.
I love that apartment! beautiful hallways
OUTSTANDING!!!!
the daybed is EPIC!!!!
This place is like a fun museum. So much cool stuff to look at. The tv is my favorite.
What a gorgeous place, I was searching for a piece that I didn't want! I love, love, love art deco and your art and furniture is to die for, your taste and style is impeccable.
When I go to Chicago, I have to visit your shop,
OHHHH my gosh.... can anyone provide more information about that FABULOUS daybed!? Be still my heart!
Very cool....but has a retail feeling
There is nothing in their place I don't love!!! Bravo!
Very cool..
I love the daybed, and that green Lady Leona poster is so cool! I'd love to get one of those.
I love the art deco style and I love your vintage apt! Love the arches & windows!
Love the architecture and design of this home! I keep ogling that beautiful kitchen (that orange paint job above the cabinets & light fixture are genious!), beautiful wood pieces (entry credenza, day bed, matching 2-tone cabinets under the oval mirror in bedroom & the floor), 2 oval mirrors & that red desk chair! I must visit your shop when I visit home this year ... love your place!
Danny & Jeff, thanks for the glimpse into your home ... hope all is well with you. I'm originally from Chicago area & have heard from my family how bad it is. Lake Shore drive was hit hard ... be careful out there!
Love the moulding and curved ceilins etc....the furnishings provide too much of a contrast tho
Gorgeous apartment! Much love for that fabulous art deco daybed! I've never seen anything like it! Looks absolutely stunning in your home. Also liked the orange and blue combo used in the kitchen...really gives it a fresh look.
lovely!
also, i second the request for info on the gray living room color!
Can you share with us the wall color of the living room?
Wow, what an amazing space both in it's architecture and styling. Those curved ceilings are to die for.
I will say that I would have picked another color in the kitchen if I kept the blue tiles.
Wow guys you live like in a movie!! The daybed, OMG, the daybed... and the art deco statuettes, all is very beautiful!!
Cool. The building has great bones and you have fleshed it out with flair and wit. Thanks for the floorplan! See Maxwell? People really appreciate seeing how it all fits together. Please may we have a floorplan for every House Tour?
Wonderful pieces.
Wonderful space in itself, I'd love to see another home from this building...
Some parts of this aren't exactly my thing, but the vaulted ceiling and heightened wall thickness in the archwar are great.
pardon typo --> "archway"
Please I also need to know the name of the gray color in the hallway.
Wow. Pure Deco harmony!
I love it! Love the light fixtures and lamps, and the daybed, and, well, everything.
i hate tiled kitchen counters, but theirs might change my mind.
Totes fun. Also, I love your store.
Where did you get the lovely black cabinet in photo #4. It's gorgeous!!!!!!
did anyone find out what color gray was used? I love how it brings out the white in the doors and molding... a perfect shade to go with all your color schemes.
Anyone have any idea of the gray color of the walls yet. Maybe someone could guess.
still holding my breath on the wall color.
please. i know i'm not alone :)

Gray color in hallway and living room? BM Nimbus?
