We use our back entrance for the landing zone, so the front entrance was our chance to embrace minimalism. We have a gallery wall with a lot of local art (Atlanta has a great art scene), and the blue goes with the rug so well in our eyes. It's our favorite part of the house right now, after moving in in October ('before' photo included!), and it sets such a fun tone - with just the right amount of funk!
Three of My Best Tips and Tricks for Creating a Successful Entryway:
1) A bold color on the door or a focal wall is a great way to set the tone for the rest of your home. We decided that the blue on the door ('Aquarium' by S-W) wouldn't be repeated anywhere else, so it truly stands out. 2) Try different layouts, but don't put holes in the wall until you are happy- unless you're willing and able to patch them. Our entryway saw many different incarnations before we felt very happy with it.) If you're a design novice like me, minimalism is easier to achieve than maximalism.
