Bill and Betsy Benes Peckenpaugh live in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. They're right outside Milwaukee and their home reflects the warm and personality they have put into it over the last 13 years of living there. They have conquered the ability to have dark walls while still having light spaces and bright walls without needing shades. Check out their handiwork after the jump.
Bill and Betsy are both musicians and fine artists and have done amazing things in their 1919 gray Colonial Revival home. They have achieved layers of design within their space and have labeled themselves as repurposers who turned marble from a fireplace into a breakfast bar and their garage into a sun room and work studio.
They're hard work has paid off and although they say they still have a few more projects around the home—we think things look pretty fantastic. You can check out the full slide show of their home over at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, where you'll also find a write up on the other fine points about their home renovations and decorating styles. Don't miss the corrugated metal ceiling (shown above) and their use of white paint to bring their dark and light wall colors come together nicely.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Beautiful! I love the dark walls with crisp, white woodwork. Lovely effect.
How fun! I'd love to see this house in person. I like the little quirks that add character, like the corrugated metal ceiling in photo 3.
Lovely home!
Wow, this is an amazing house.
I would never think to paint walls black, but I didn't even notice them at first! They do a great job of focusing attention on the artwork and furniture instead of the walls.
Yay for Tosa! You're home is beautiful! It is nice to see some local decorators on AT!
Holy crap, I run past this house.
That living room is sexy - I want.
This place jus screams class. If indeed one can equate class with screaming :)
I like their innovative take on ceilings, as in the use of high gloss white in the living room and the lighter circle in the bedroom. Does a gloss paint make a ceiling appear higher, or would the reflections actually draw it down?
this isn't really my style but i'm really drawn to your house :D like i wanna visit it and i bet it would be even more amazing in actual than in pics :D
congratulations for having a lovely home :D
I grew up in Milwaukee, so I'm happy to be seeing Milwaukee homes featured in AT lately. This one is beautiful!
Beautiful house. LOVE that green in the room with the ceiling fan. Also love the sun room. Soooo cozy (especially on a cold day like today).
oh please, PLEASE tell me that the cello is there just for staging... if not the cold draft, then the sunlight will surely kill it. *weep*
Hooray for Tosa representation! My fiancé grew up there and we now live just south of the area.
This place looks fantastic. Love the bedroom! And that tin/metal ceiling... gorgeous.
