When I first met Barbara Franceski at the 2010 DC Design House
, it was clear that she was not a designer that you just "get". Thanks to Traditional Home
, we peek into her Old Town Alexandria home, where her art-centered rooms are unexpected yet polished, comfortable but a bit edgy too. While some elements seem familiar — for example, a neutral backdrop that allows vibrant art and accessories to take center stage — there is something about Barbara's house that is quite different from the beautiful DC area residences that we're used to seeing in shelter magazines. Her neutral background is not just flat white, it's a collage of textures and finishes that bring warmth and depth to the rooms. And her accents are unexpected without tipping into the realm of shock value — they compliment the architecture but enliven it too.
