The artist couple transformed the house completely by digging through years of paint and plaster to reveal original 18th Century stone walls, and beautiful wooden beams that can be found in the master bedroom and living room. The ability to change the floor plan gave them the opportunity to turn a "keeping room" into a master bedroom and a "cold storage room" into a luxurious master bathroom.
Thomas is an amazing woodworker and was able to use his skill around the house. Many of the wood used in the remodeling process was reclaimed from an old barn. The kitchen counter tops are black walnut slabs that have been refinished. It's not often you see wood used as counter tops (except those of us lucky enough to have butcher block) and it's a great way to keep things rustic, yet contemporary.
