A Converted Stable in N.E. Goes Green, Retro, and On the Market
DC Urban Turf

Add this one to the list of positive design gossip we've been hearing about the H Street corridor in N.E., this home is definitely buzz-worthy. Once a delivery stable, now a family home decked out in salvaged goods such as bowling alley lane counter-tops and a shower made out of reconfigured darkroom equipment. Oh, and 22 ft. high ceilings...

Many revitalization efforts around the city have stirred a bit of controversy, especially in terms of eco-sensitivity. Many times, gorgeous and solidly built —albeit often neglected—old row houses are leveled to make room for a monstrosity of a condo-complex built with flimsy materials and a host of trendy, soon-to-be-dated design elements. Thankfully, many development and renovations efforts around H Street seem to be taking a different, more sensitive route, and this home is an inspiring example. When the house was converted into a living space, the owner, a custom home builder, was set on using as many reclaimed materials as possible.

And almost as cool as the renovated space itself is the fact that you could actually call it home— it's for sale! For more information about acquiring this awesome home, send inquiries to mediaexec@gmail.com

Just awesome. Character and livability! This isn't one of those pretentious, ego-driven pads when one comes home to and sits (carefully) in a chair with a glass of wine, admiring their sense of esthetics. This place invites you to DO things... inspires you to cook a great meal, knock out a chorus of Lush Life on the piano, play with the kids on your back. It's not a playroom, but a very comfy and interesting to look at place you can't wait to come home to. Purrfect kitchen for a tamale making party!

Love this place! (although I suspect that heating and cooling bills may be an issue)

The bathroom has all the visual appeal of drinking curdles milk while listening to Phil Collins.

It's kind of incongruous that the owner is a custom home builder, but I guess you have to pay the bills somehow... However, I totally love this place. Would LOVE LOVE LOVE to live here!
