Closeup: Artwork With a Connection To Its Home

Artwork in a home often has an incredibly interesting story. When Amy purchased her Mount Pleasant house, she found 28 paintings buried in dirt in the basement. About 5 or 6 were damaged beyond repair but she had the rest professionally cleaned and framed before hanging them in the house. She later found out that they were made by a famous local DC artist. Can you guess which one? The answer, along with more info and photos (including a closeup of the painting shown here), below the jump...

The paintings were all made by E.J. Marlin who lived in the house while studying at the Corcoran College of Art and Design. Marlin later went on to become a prominent DC artist whose work has been shown across the U.S. The home's former owner allowed his tenant Marlin to pay his rent in paintings.
