One of the quickest and easiest ways to change the look and feel of a room to is to change the art. We tend to like a little humor in our home (can't take ourselves too seriously!) and text art seems to be a great way to accomplish that.

We have a few pieces in our home, but we recently came across Monsieur Cabinet. Dave lives and works in Leeds, West Yorkshire. He's a lecturer at Leeds College of Art and he loves wordplay and satire. All of which are apparent in his body of work.
His Words & Type series is filled with wordplay and satire. Not meant to be offensive to anyone, just meant to be ironic and humorous. A piece of art that will make you smile each time you pass it, or when a guest sees it for the first time. Our personal favorite is "Make Misteaks".
Really? These go from uncreative to offensive very quickly.

Yes, my friend whom is a little person would find the midget one HILARIOUS.

Midgets is patently offensive to little people.
What's next, Faggots are Fun? seriously now.

Word art is already oh so tired.

Firstly, some little people call "Midgets" the "M" word. So I'm not sure how awesome that poster really is. And I'm interested in Graphic Design but I can't take this kind of word poster thing anymore either.
And LoriSF, I hate those Keep Calm Carry on posters but I bought a Keep Calm and Love Doxies for my ex. He wasn't my ex then of course and we did not break up because of that poster.

I bet little people love being constant punchlines.

I hate the Keep Calm ones too.. I was mocking the whole word art thing.

I wonder how much these frat boy t-shirt posters cost? I couldn't find prices on the site... None of them are funny or visually appealing to me.

I'd rather buy "art" from Bed, Bath & Beyond than pay money for this junk.

Wow, thanks for the post, absolutely amazed it's caused such a stir.
Thanks for the comment Alexis, nice to see someone not taking life too seriously.
Oh and LBhirise, you could have said "Faggots are Tasty".
Wordplay is quite clearly lost on you.

When I read the "Make Misteaks" poster I interpreted it as "Make Me Steaks," which would definitely be better than these posters.
Laaaaaaaaaaaaaame!!!
But steaks are yummy and I definitely wouldn't mind it if someone else made one for me.

I love the idea of art on cabinets and actually did an art post yesterday under the same guise of having fun and buying what you like: www.betterhomenogarden.com

I work in advertising and I have a print hanging on the wall of my office that says Keep Calm and Write the Fucking Copy.

tough crowd. i like 'pictures of cars drive me up the wall'... i know my mom would love it and would place it right in between all the car pictures my dad has taken over their walls with. clever monsieur cabinet - don't let the others get you down.

i enjoy them, if u get offended at stuff like this then u live in a bubble, there is far more offensive stuff out there. u don't HAVE to buy this btw, its not compulsory to like it.

If it's text art you like, the good stuff is here. www.equatorbooks.com
One of the owners is an artist and he does prints like this. Really good ones. I'm looking at one in my apartment right now. I love it. Check him out. His name is Michael Deyermond. I think you can see some of it here www.takeonart.com

I do appreciate simple text on color for art! I think the phrases themselves could be a bit improved, but the idea is lots of fun!

I love this one "pictures of cars drive me up the wall". Mostly because I work at an agency that mostly does automotive stuff and I am constantly looking at car pictures that... drive me up the wall. I printed it and it's going up on my wall. I'll just try to pretend I didn't see the midget one :(

Nope.

@MonsieurCabinet: If it's about wordplay, then "faggots are flaming" would work best. But I'm not in favor of this sort of 'cheeky' word art. It's just a modern, hipster version of those wall plaques with 'humorous' sayings on them that were so popular in the '80s and '90s. It's equally lame.

I agree with slowdown. It makes me think of Taxi Driver where Robert Dinero's character has a sign that says "one of these days I'm gonna get organizized."

They're all just one liners. Not much depth. At best, they will amuse you when you first see it. An impulse buy. But what about the five hundredth time you see it?

I'm sorry, but what a pile of crap.
