DIY Jean Pot-Holder
Washington DC

7-21-jeans-plant-1.jpg

During our recent visit to Reykjavik, Iceland, we came across these jean pot-holders. It's a great way to put your jeans to use during the hot DC summertime (when you probably don't want to wear your jeans anyway). Simply wrap your jeans around the pot-holder of your course, and voila! Instant decor...

Would you try this at home?

uhhhhh, I just don't like this. I guess it would one thing if it was recycling jean fabric and turning them into pots. But this is inexplicably wrapping plant pots with whole pairs of bluejeans in the middle of summer when I'm not sure the plants need the extra insulation. And then what happens - when it cools down you just unwrap the pots and wear the jeans again? I just don't get it.

Sorry,

That anyone would submit that and someone actually thought it a plausible idea -- sad, very sad, not even funny just sad. Don't you edit this stuff? You need some one new to accept submissions.

Pot holder is a really strange phrase for this idea. In conversational English it means oven mitt. Very strange choice of words, and a hideous execution. What on earth is the point of this? And, why jeans? Why not slip tube socks over your pots for a more sporty "pot holder"? Why not put a bra and underwear on your plants for a racy "pot holder"? This idea is utter nonsense.

I also look for interesting and new ideas - things I would not think of and perhaps not use. It is different and worthy of a mention. Certainly not offensive and worthy of the rude comments above.

At first I, too, thought there was some connection to oven mitts, Griffin. So I was confused as well as horrified. It may be "different", but it's hard to see the value in that when it's also ugly and useless.

If you were out of your mind bored, you could cut off the pant legs, soak them in resin, and make a pot out of it, which would sort of be ok, but still look bad.

If you cut the jeans into strips and made a loom-style pot holder (that you would use to handle hot items in the kitchen), then you might have something. Did anyone else have those pot-holder looms when they were a kid?

I think it's because whenever there's a controversy, they have to balance it with something everyone can agree is awful. The more I look at it, the more it reminds me of someone who would wear jeans with a denim jacket and maybe even a denim hat for a whole ensemble. Those plants are shamed by their decorator. It might be a different story if they glued mirror squares to it, or hit it with the Bedazzler. No, I'm sorry. I can't think of a good enough reason to embalm a pot in a whole pair of full-length adult jeans. It ain't too jazzy. Could be 'cause they're a little stone-washed too. There's a whole lot of barfy going on there.
