Being from the South, I'm mostly a traditional decorator, but love to add some fun and sass into the mix whenever I can. I'm also a yardsale and thriftstore hound and have found some great things by re-purposing, re-painting, and generally rehabbing my found items to work in my house. And that makes for a nice eclectic mix, which is much more interesting than just going to the store and buying things new.

For many years, we've seen representations of birds in home decor — songbirds adorned nearly everything. Countless pillows, rugs, and pottery feature a single bird and the ubiquitous stick or branch. How refreshing to see the minimalist work of Shanghai designer Zhili Liu! Her Bird series of lighting represents feathered creatures in a whole new light.

I moved in to this tiny studio unit when my brother moved out. He had used an interior decorator, painting the walls a neutral color and finding appropriately matching furniture and carpets. When he moved out, he took everything except the couch, the carpet, and the book case / TV stand.

I'm an artist and have been in my condo for 3 years. The building was built in 1933 and has four units — mine is the largest at 804 square feet. I've got a large art collection and my studio is in my home. The neighborhood is in the Old City section of Capitol Hill, a neighborhood in transition.
