Yesterday marked the launch of Architecture Week here in Baltimore. So for those of you who think Charm City is just one brick rowhouse after another, Architecture Week hosts a plethora of events to help you see otherwise...
For starters, it's not just one week - the event actually runs the 14th through the 29th. Sponsored by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Baltimore's chapter was established in 1871, making it the third oldest in the country. Workshops, lectures, walking tours, and other events will be taking place around the city to help you get acquainted with Baltimore's urban landscape. This is just a smattering of what's being offered - click here for the full list of events.

I didn't know MICA owned a 60's motel.
Maybe they should buy the one on North Avenue as well.

Oh gawd. If I see the Brown Building as another example of how "modern" Baltimore has become, I'm going to scream.
This city needs a makeover, and some decent chinese takeout or I'm not going to make it through my two year master's program here...

can they address the contrast of architecture and public art? like, i dunno, for example, the HEINOUSNESS that is in front of penn station? (for those who are uninitiated... it is much, much worse in person.) i don't know any baltimorean who wouldn't give up all their christmas presents to have that thing gone.
that said, it's exciting to see my beloved hometown get some recognition for architecture, regardless of MICA. there is a lot of beautiful work in the city, much of it neglected.
