Before and After: Aaron & Angela's Shelf Solution

AaronBedroomAfter.jpg

When Aaron and Angela wrote in to ask for advice on dealing with a new architectural feature in their bedroom (here's the post), our readers stepped up to the plate with advice and ideas...

Bedroom Before

As you can see, Aaron and Angela took the majority's advice on curtains, paint, and accessorizing the shelf. We love the new red curtains and crisp paint job, and are impressed that the transformation was finished just in time for the holidays.

Thank you to everyone who made suggestions, and a big thank you to Aaron and Angela for sending us the "after" picture- we love it when folks follow-up on their Good Questions!

I disagree. The new version is much improved with the color and more lighting up above. I would question whether the curtain rod needs another bracket, though. I think I would leave the shelve behind the bed bare, or lean some photographs up.

I think the after is much better, while the paint in the before seems 2 somewhat different colors, the curtains blend in and are on a plain rod and the lighting above looked skimpy.

I love how the red curtains now go up to the bottom of the shelf's cornice giving height to the window wall and when closed (or open for that matter) the red gives needed punch to what would otherwise be a plain room color wise.

And while the changes are not radical, it's indeed an improvement over what was there. Really, sometimes just adding colorful curtains or something simple like that is all it takes to bring life to a room.

I think the lighting looks better now, but not so sure about the rest of it. I think maybe I'm distracted by the black sheets.

Does the bed really have to block the windows?

I love that soft green wall in the before photo and I think the new draperies really dwarf that window. Nice try, you never know what it'll look like until you do it.

The before looked more sophisticated- with the delicate rod and the subdued color scheme... the red curtains and bedding are more harsh than warm and bc they are hung so high and with a dark heavy rod it makes the whole area look like a large dark box...

maybe some lighter pillows and or a light sheer on a double rod belore to accompany the current drapes might help break it up?

I agree with CMU, what's with this trend of windows as headboards?

We were told in the original post that they have to put the bed here.

I would love to see the curtains lowered. Not as far down as in the "before" but somewhere in-between. The naked bottom of that middle bracket isn't making me smile. The style of the curtains, themselves are great, and I like the color.

And yes, yes, yes, I love the new lighting.

However, the light distribution looks better.
