Classic Clocks (Not Pomo or Clever in Any Way)
High and Low Roundup

I need a clock to replace a simple Umbra one that broke in the bathroom. It has numbers and a black border and is about seven inches wide. Why is it so hard to find a replacement that's not devoid of numbers, in a "cute" shape, antique-looking or $150? If you want a clock that tells time, check these out.

In our search, we bought one from Target because we were excited about its $3.99 price-tag and style, but we learned our lesson: it was inexpensive because it was cheap. The big hand stuck up a little bit so that the little hand got caught on it every time it went around the clock face. We're hoping one of these options will work out better.

1 Howard Miller, $55 at Design Within Reach

2 Lemnos wall clock, $49, Park Life store, as well as Click! Design that Fits. A bridesmaid gave us this one as a wedding gift, and we love it.

3 10-inch Atomic analog clock, $19.95, by La Crosse. It's atomic, so it will always be the correct time.

4 Advance Clock Co., $6.99 at Amazon

5 Embossed Numbers Wall Clock, $49.95 at Crate & Barrel. Another friend gave us this clock for our wedding, and it hangs in our kitchen, making a very dramatic statement for an object so clean and simple.

6 Aluminum Wall Clock, $48.75, by Muji. Who can beat Muji for simplicity?

7 Howard Miller, $18.17 at CSN

8 Infinity Instruments, $12.99 at CSN

9 PUGG Wall Clock, $19.99 at IKEA

10 Kincaid, $22.99 at Staples

Excellent roundup, thank you! And just what I needed. I'll be ordering the Howard Miller clock.

You got your #2 & #3 clocks mixed up. I've had #9 for years, but I think #2 is cute.

my husband would love this post. He loves simple, easy to read, and BIG clocks. We have one that looks like #4 but is about 2' in diameter.

Yes, thank you! I have been scoping out simple clocks for a while now and have had a tough time as well.

That first one reminds me of the clocks in public school.

We have #5 and love it. Not sure it qualifies as classic though. It's surprisingly easy to read too due to the way the light reflects off it.

ooh I too have been researching for nice simple clocks. I bought one from Target but the loud tick-tocking drove me nuts. I want one that's quiet. Are all of these pretty quiet?

My cheap clock from Target went tick-tock too, and it was really loud. I can attest to #s 2 and 5. They are silent.

We recently bought a red clock at Target that we love, love, love! The inside color is a faint aqua and matches the paint on our kitchen wall. It cost about 30 bucks and isn't noisy. Here's a shortened link to the item, in case you're interested: http://bit.ly/11Cbfr .

I have the Muji clock. It's silent and very simple, as you said.

Does anyone know if the IKEA clock pictured ticks loudly? I just can't stand the noise interfering with silence.

The Ikea clock is not loud.
Silent, in fact. My partner would tear it off the wall if it made a sound.
