There's a reason why beach houses feel so soothing and carefree, and it's not
just the blissful fact that the ocean's within earshot. Coastal hues have a way of calming the senses and refreshing a space in a particular way. We painted our dark, dank back room an invigorating beachy aqua, and it has since morphed into the gathering hub of our home despite the fact that the only seating option is a child's size sofa. For creating a casual
floor-lounging vibe, coastal color is hard to beat. Check out
these inspiring combinations...
Much better than seashell cliches, beachy colors can make a city home feel like a breezy getaway without seeming themey or over-styled.
Layering aquas, turquoises, apple greens, and their muted counterparts against bright whites creates a color scheme that is somehow invigorating and calming at the same time. It's like the color equivalent to a summer breeze.

Other than mid-c, I pretty much dislike theme-y rooms. However, a coastal theme, as you call it, when done right, is one of my favorite interior styles.

I could live in these rooms. Lovely.

all these rooms also have a lot of sunlight streaming in... but I would love to have these colors on the walls of my windowless living room (which is more of a Wii gaming den at this point)-- would it work?

I looove that last kitchen. I wonder what counter material was used? Some type of glass?

I love these! Does anyone know where a similar bedside table can be found in the 2nd photo?

Love the last kitchen... But the only thing I can see reasonably stealing (since I don't live on the beach), is painting the interior of glass front cabinets blue with white fronts...

I like the feel of these rooms - the vibe the blue is setting. But this isn't actually my style or taste. But it got me thinking: do I actually like them, or is it just that this type of decorating reminds me of the beach and vacation, and *that* is what I actually like. I don't actually know the answer to my own question - but the idea that memories can be entangled or even confused with design is fascinating me.

Nice one. We're off to paint our beach shack this weekend. . . but I'll be opting for all white.
