The Vice President's House
The Washington Post, 11.27.08

With so much attention on the White House redecorating possibilities, it's easy to forget the other decor changes that will soon be happening in DC, like the Vice President's house at the U.S. Naval Observatory. The Vice President's Queen Anne-style house has been home to only 5 Vice Presidents. With less history than the White House, the Vice President's 33-room home is more flexible in design possibilities. More info and photos below the jump...

The house was built in 1893 for Naval Observatory superintendent and in 1928 became the residence of the chief of naval operations. In 1974 Congress designated it the official residence of the Vice President, though the Navy still owns and operates the house.

Like the President, the Vice President can borrow furniture and artwork from national museums. The design and redecorating possibilities seem endless!

How will they ever get the stench of the current resident out? I hear it smells like sulfer...

Why redecorate when it looks perfectly fine? I guess if you are just trading out things from museums that's understandable, but if the furniture and draperies are up to date and in good shape, I don't see the need to change them.

I think it would be creepy to live where Cheney or Bush has lived. Gross.

I sold Lynn Cheney an antique engraving back in the early 90's for her Texas house, and she was clueless to why everybody else in the gallery ignored her, and why we didnt exactly approve of her need for a 32" framed ingraving to go over a 32" wide desk...
