Coffee & the Works is a small kitchen accessories store located North of Dupont Circle. The store is filled from top to bottom with kitchen wares, coffee, tea, and chocolate. Coffee & the Works carries many products from Bodum, Alessi, Brown Betty, and other higher-end lines. The small store is cluttered and appears to be filled at random, but a closer look reveals carefully curated items. More photos and info below the jump...

We think the the many items make the store fun to browse. If you're overwhelmed, the store owner is usually around to help. Prices are comparable to other small home goods stores, but you're probably paying a small premium for the great location. Have you shopped at Coffee & the Works?

If that's the same place that was once called something along the lines of Top Shelf, then I've definitely shopped there. I seem to recall finding a great teapot for a gift, and a nonstick madeleine baking dish that I still use 3 years later.

Their selection is amazing, and you're quite right - in such a small space it may seem cluttered, but there's method to the madness.

This place is the BEST. My go-to store when I don't have time to truck my butt to BB&B or Target...rocks glasses? Check. Removable bottom tart pan? Check. Christmas themed cookie cutters? Check! They've not let me down yet!

Coffee & The Works is a wonderful DC source for home and gift ideas. They have merchandise changes with each season; and it always contains unusual, yet useful, household items.
While window shopping at lunch a couple years ago, I saw a staff member putting final touches on window display featuring a 28" long oval Michael Graves-designed tray by Alessi. .
Although I'd never seen that serving tray, it was love-at-first sight whereupon I asked to buy it. To which the clerk responded without missing a beat, I knew that window displays drew customers into the store, but this has to be a record because it took 5 seconds from the time I finished the display. From that moment on, I've been hooked on Coffee & The Works for my place and gifts as well.
