apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

East #19: Rachel's "Scottish Isle"

fallcolors4.jpgName: Rachel
Location: Birmingham, Alabama
Type of Home: Condo
What inspired you to use color? I've always loved bold colors. For years I lived in white- and beige-walled apartments and disliked the blah-ness of it all. I often dreamed about the colors I would paint the walls when I had a home, so some of the rooms in my condo are as I had imagined I wanted them, but others it was just a matter of taking a risk and picking a bold color when I was standing in front of all those paint chips...

Color Tip: Don't be afraid to use bold colors on the walls because it can transform a room in ways you hadn't envisioned. And, in the world of home decor, paint is relatively cheap, so it's mainly an investment of time.
Colors Used: Bathroom: Behr, Scottish Isle

Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------

fallcolors1.jpgWelcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell

What I love about this condo is that it has personality - and everything isn't matchy matchy. There are lots of colors, textures, surfaces and personal touches. I especially love her use of art!

Love love love this place! The colors are fantastic, but I'm even more charmed by the artwork. Any tips on where you've found such cool images? Do you keep an etsy shop of your own stuff?

I absolutely love the vibrant colors displayed throughout your condo. This condo is truely a place to be proud of and the view from the kitchen is phenomenal. I think the art work displayed throughout your place is a great touch to the place and what a great idea you did with the kitchen table and chairs.

Love the green bathroom. The condo shows so much creativity. A mixture of old and new and the view from the kitchen is terrific. Also, I love the way the blue chairs accent the one red chair. Who would have ever thought of that.
