Name: Judi Knight
Location: Atlanta
Type of Home: Loft
What inspired you to use color? While designing and building my loft from an old cotton sorting warehouse, I fell madly in love with a man who had a special sense of design and love of shapes and colors that complemented and played off my crazy ideas...
...In the late afternoons after the crews went home we would sit in the nearly finished space with our paint decks and talk, argue and laugh about the colors as if they were old friends. “Oh, there’s always our old friend Corinthian, but he may not relate all that well with Adam’s Gold. . .” Now eight years later, I will catch a glimpse of a spot where several colors come together and I am awed at what we created. The attention to detail and the happiness that it was based upon has imbued this space with a magical spirit that is palpable to all.
Color Tip: Go for it and make it your own. Daniel Pinkwater's character, Mr. Plumbean, from The Big Orange Splot, has the right idea, "My house is me and I am it. My house is where I want to be and it looks like all my dreams".

Yowza. I love some of the color combinations and I'm really glad that you love ALL of them :) And I truly love what appears to be a disco ball above it all.

Maybe there's a special prize for most colors used in a single space?

Did someone say 'not-over-the-top'? Really??

I'm afraid to see what "over-the-top" is.

I guess with the high ceilings/beams, stairs and doors, I think it looks like a studio setting for a show where children sing and possibly learn while doing so. I wouldn't say this in a bad way, but that was my first thought. I like how it all comes together without anything sticking out like it doesn't belong in the space. The sense of colors coming together for the whole definitely comes through here.

i think it could use some editing, but there are some really neat ideas there.

If I lived here, I'd wear rollerskates. This brings out the child in anyone, I'd guess. What a happy space!

Judi, when you say "the happiness that it was based upon," I think you've nailed the one alchemical factor that guarantees decor success beyond anyone's wildest dreams. I've never had a home, room, or nook that everyone didn't love, gravitate to, and enjoy when it wasn't created in real collaborative happiness! And your place certainly stands as Exhibit A for this argument.
I also love, love, love the way the look of your place blooms right out to its exterior.
Thanks for the really happy start to the week!

Yes, a tad over the top, yet to each his own and if this gets you through the night -- more power to you. I admire your ability to live with so much contrast in colors and textures and it does reflect your sense of adventure and bravado.
