The moment we saw this picture posted to the DC Apartment Therapy Flickr group, we knew we had to share it with all of our readers. This lovely vignette comes to us from a rowhouse in Philadelphia — window boxes are often as close as we apartment dwellers get to a garden...

According to the homeowner Michael, this lovely window box is planted with planted with strawberries, petunias, annual flowers, and stonecrop (sedum). We love how the indoor and outdoor-scape blend seamlessly, helping to bring a little taste of the outdoors inside. We also appreciate that this box is made from recycled stair treads, but if you don't have such materials available, you can find more window box ideas in Leah's post from March.
Thanks Michael for sharing your space with us. We encourage all Apartment Therapy DC readers to post pictures of your homes to our Flickr group- you never know when you might find your photo highlighted here!

How cool!
I have a balcony, and it is like my mini garden.

Nice. Another month and it will look awesome.
If the owner could put the plants on the ground into similar black pots (IKEA has some nice ones) or maybe turquoise like the front door I think it would pull the space together even more.

I am trying to do this too, to my Philly apartment. I have wide windowsills inside -- perfect for plants. (I do feel guilty about taking up my cat's window space though!)
Any ideas on the windows that get most light? Southern-facing, I've heard?
