Flickr Finds: OrangeDoor's Fabulous Front Porch

OrangeDoor.jpg

The moment we saw this porch posted to the Apartment Therapy DC group on Flickr, we fell in love and we were thrilled to see it as part of My Great Outdoorscarma358's Front Porch from Baltimore. The gray is soothing while the orange door provides a wonderful pop of energy, and don't even get us started on our desire to just sink into those rocking chairs with an after-work beverage...

The painted porch floor is definitely one of our favorite elements, one all too often overlooked by homeowners. The pots of flowers and the wood furniture carry natural elements from the yard right up to the door of this urban rowhouse. The white trim and gleaming metal accents pop against the darker gray exterior, but it is the bright orange door that really sets this porch apart. We love to see the successful use of such a bold color, especially on the exterior of a house.

Thanks Orange Door for sharing your space with us. We encourage all Apartment Therapy DC readers to post pictures of your homes to our Flickr group- you never know when you might find your photo highlighted here!

The colors, and their proportions, are just right. I think the door also would be nice in hues like blood orange and sky blue. Grey just makes a really wonderful foil for so many colors.

Another fine example of how grey is an ideal neutral. Simply perfect in color choice and execution.

do not paint your porch floor, especially if you live on the East coast. trust me, you will be scraping and re-painting it every summer. it looks great - but it lasts about 2 minutes.
