apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

One of my dreams in life is to have a dedicated sewing room. I currently keep my machine stashed under my bed and haul it out whenever inspiration hits. I'd love to just meander over to it one day to sit down and sew.

What a happy area. I love the colors.

But I'm trying to soak up this cold while it lasts!! It was in the 80s here til yesterday and there's lots of sweaty months to come, so I don't mind the cold and rain. The high is actually 48 today!! 48!! Crazy. :)

I recently converted part of our guest room into a sewing nook. I purchased a 1970's sewing table on Craigslist for $25 to sit my machine on. It has two extensions that fold out when I need more room. My fabric is stashed in the closet and my cutting mats are under the guest bed. It's nice to have a dedicated space when inspiration strikes!

I do the "closet storage/pull it out and use the kitchen table to sew method." It is a PAIN but alas, there's no room in my tiny place for a permanent sewing table. Some day, some day...

I am very grateful to have the luxury of a dedicated sewing room. It easily converts to extra guest space when needed (with air mattress). My sewing machine and supplies (except fabric in the closet) are stored in a Sauder Craft Armoire. Nifty piece of furniture for a small/multi-use space. It takes up about 3 square feet of floor space when it's put away, but contains a generous sewing surface that unfolds and rolls out, stores my sewing machine and my serger, has 3 adjustable shelves for supplies, and built-in electrical outlets. My sewing room faces south, so it gets nice and sunny in the winter. A balmy 14 degrees here today (yes, Fahrenheit!) so I'll be putting some time in at the machine!

I have a corner of my room dedicated to sewing and crafting. I used to pull the machine out of the closet when I wanted to do something, but I had so much crafting supplies that it was just overwhelming. I LOVE having my own space for it now, and it's so neat and organized.

I LOVE that clear topped thread box. What a great idea. I need to get one of those.

I've sewn in everything from closets to the corner of a small kitchen. Right now I actually have half a guest room dedicated to sewing and I've never been less organized!

I was delighted to have a big closet in an upstairs guest room to set up my sewing machine and supplies for the first time ever! I decided to rent out that room this year (when I was laid off from my job) and dumped all the sewing stuff in the basement, kind of sad. However, I was inspired by a nice sewing area I saw in AT that inspired and boosted my spirits. I recently organized a basement area for the sewing stuff using some old storage shelves in the basement and it's not so dismal after all. I plugged in a little space heater and I'm back in "business"! It will be much cooler in the summer down there, too!

this is just what I needed to see on this dreary day. It looks like a very happy place to work, great job!

Where was the flat brown display case purchased (with the glass top?) I SOOOO need one of those!
