Look! Garden-Covered Furniture

Our friend found these lush, vegetation-covered furniture at a county fair &mdash they're a great take on garden furniture. It's furniture that's literally a part of the garden.

Garden expert Debra Prinzing found them at a fair in California, and they were planted with succulents (which grow well in southern California). If you wanted to do them in your own backyard in the Mid-Atlantic region, she recommends that you use a spreading evergreen plant, such as a fern or a moss. We think they would be great for a whimsical garden of a furniture lover.

Looking at them at least gives us a last look at the beauty of summer before we head into autumn. What do you think?

I have an old armchair like this in the garage, I might make a flower-chair (lol) for the front lawn :-)

looks like a great place for a cat to sit on a sunny afternoon.

Pretty idea, but I think it would look kind of junky in real life.

Nice. I think its fun. I don't know if I'd do it, but I like to look at it. If you want a version you can sit on, this might be a good interior alternative: http://www.modernests.com/2008/12/diy-alert-shag-chair.html

By the way...I think what makes it work is that there's a matching table and pot otherwise it could look trashy, but this way it is put together and obviously intentional. Which in the case of furniture in the yard, intentional is better than not.

That looks kind of fun, but it seems like the chair would rot pretty quickly. I want to make a bench with grass or moss growing on the top.

Definitely agree with you Usbek de Perse - would be a great place for the cats to sun themselves! Although our 3 cats would be fighting over the chair I'm sure!

I live in a college town. It sure beats the upholstered sofa on the front porch!
