Walking in Bartholdi Park across from the US Botanic Garden the other day we noticed a trend happening with their planters...

Beautiful flowers and plants were placed in planters in groups of three; three different sizes, yet identical-in-style planters. The look was very beautiful and charming. A style that could easily be transferred to smaller city yards and gardens. This was hardly surprising knowing that this park was conceived as a landscape demonstration garden for homeowners everywhere.

These different sized planters could help bring depth and beauty to any location.
What kind of plant is the large one in the first photo with the purple flowers? I have been looking everywhere since seeing it in Chapel Hill, NC. It's a very beautiful and seemingly easy to grow... PLEASE help!
