Q: Today a window repairman dropped an air conditioner on one of my dining room table chairs and broke it. I'm new to the DC area and looking for an excellent furniture repair store that specializes in Danish/mid-century modern furniture. Do you have any suggestions?

We had a table leg for a modern table copied and replaced by New England Antiques Furniture Repair Shop in Rosslyn a couple of years ago. They did a great job, the fee was very reasonable, and they were friendly and nice.
A review on Google says they aren't there anymore, I hope that's not true (the shop is a little hard to find). I'd call and check myself, but it's 5pm on the west coast now (I live in LA now).

I hope that repair man was bonded and/or insured. Sounds like he ought to be paying for the repairs while you do what you're doing -- finding a suitable repair-person!

I met a gentleman from York, PA this past weekend at the DC Big Flea. Might be too far but his work was FANTASTIC! If you are interested I could get his info.

Call your local Woodcraft store (I know there's one in Woodbridge), and ask if they have contact info for any furniture makers who do this kind of work. Any time I've had an antique (of any age or style) that's required repair, my local Woodcraft's got the lowdown.
It's pretty much the speciality shop for that industry, and the recommendations I've gotten have always been of regulars known to the clerks doing the suggesting. Worth a shot, if no one else's suggestions here pan out for you.

I recently had a Frank Reenskaug rocker refinished. I contacted a lot of people but ultimately chose a company called Second Empire in Baltimore.
