Good Questions: Cleaning a Libre Sectional from DWR?

Apartment Therapy DC reader Loren needs help cleaning a sectional purchased on Craigslist: "Harkening back to a long-ago submitted question about sofa selection, I've finally bought several pieces of the DWR Libre collection covered in sand upholstery from someone on craigslist. I love the look of the sofa and in pretty good shape, but it definitely needs cleaning. I paid a good price for the sofa, but it's still pushing the limits of my budget and I'm trying to keep the price tag down on associated services (i.e. moving, cleaning). Is this one of those thing where I can get away with cleaning it myself? If so, does anyone have recommendations for how? If not, does anyone have suggestions for good, inexpensive upholstery cleaners? Thanks!"

I agree, call Macy's, Sears or Bloomingdales and get your cleaning done through them. You may end up paying more, but there will be little risk of your furniture being damaged, plus they warranty their work. Do-it-yourself furniture cleaning is at best problematic and at worst a disaster.

It depends on the stains or dirt involved, and how much you want to risk.

I have successfully cleaned simple grunge and SOME stains (water damage, mainly) with a Spot Bot and with Carbona carpet cleaner (supermarket, comes with an attached scrub brush, I keep it on hand for pet accidents.)

But I certainly wouldn't try cleaning fruit juice or wine or certain other stains alone...

I agree - call Sears. My sister-in-law called Sears to clean a garage sale sofa that she had bought and they did a really nice job.
