Good Questions: Cool Modern Counter-height Tables?

BongoTable.jpg

ATDC reader Kat needs help finding (or creating) the perfect table:

"I fell in love with the Bongo bar-height table from CB2 (pictured above), but then fell deeper in love with a pair of $25 DWR counter-height stools (ebay!). What to do? I'm looking for a counter-height table that doesn't look like a heavy pub table...suggestions? I've even thought about making my own, but where to buy nice metal legs of the right height?

Kat,
We think you should take a look at the Utby table by Ikea (pictured below) as it closely resembles the C2B table you love, and is available in both bar and counter heights.

Does anyone have another recommendation for Kat?

I'm confused. Why not get the CB2 table?

Hey, I was looking at the utby a while back. seems like the best option from Ikea anyway.

I have the utby table and the nice thing about it is you do not have to buy the actual counter with it--so you can theoretically purchase your desired counter top and affix it to the otherwise nice utby base. I say this because the "brown-black" counter is not at all brown. It's black.

Because counter-height stools are for counters that are 36" high - and barstools are for counters that are 42" high.

Thanks, everybody!

I saw the UTBY table as well. I don't love the legs as much and was hoping for a smoother design. Thanks for the tip about the table top, though. This might still be my best option.

I do love the Room and Board Portica series legs (which aren't counter-height), bases (which are), and even full counter-height tables:

I could find a way to buy or make a table top that would work for me if I could find great legs like this, but am I crazy to hope that I could buy well-designed counter-height legs for under $400?

find a local artist/welder to make you a base out of raw steel...

or try a restaurant supply store for stainless option in a variety of sizes. (that's what i did!)
