Good Questions: Where Can I Find a Drying Rack that Lowers from the Ceiling?
Washington DC

2304-1.JPG

A DC friend is searching for a drying rack that hangs on the ceiling and can be lowered down when needed. We mentioned the home-made rack in the DIY Home on Mystery Island, and wanted to find something similar for purchase. We found a few options and are hoping readers will help out with suggestions...

The Suspended Ceiling Mounted Clothes Drying Rack shown above the jump is sold by Joyful Spin Cycle for $79.95. Shown on this page is an Overhead Dryer from Natural Collection in the U.K.

Do you have any suggestions?

I guess if you don't have a tub with a shower curtain rod, one of these above the shower stall would be good...

this is so funny... here in Hungary every apartment had this so called "fregoli", but everyone thinks it is uncool and ex-socialist-block style... and it is so cheap here. I would never have thought that anyone would want something like that. :)

I air dry about 75% of my laundry inside my 1 bedroom apt, and so far have found that the Michael Graves indoor retractable clothesline & clotheshorse from Target work best for me. The clothesline not only retracts, but can be removed from the wall when you're not using it. I like the clotheshorse because there are 3 removable mesh "shelves" that you can leave on to flat dry or remove to hang dry.

I would like to buy a second set of each but I think these two products have been discontinued. If anyone can tell me otherwise, great! If not, can anyone suggest substitutes?

Kind of on subject: please, can anyone tell me where I can find a drying rack that hangs over a door, but isn't mounted to the door? I saw this awhile ago but haven't been able to find one for sale. Thank you!

This is a fantastic drying rack that can hold lots of clothes but doesn't take up much space. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10115963

Yes, and if you only use it for drying occasionally, you could raise it up and hang crystals or ivy on it and make it a decorative item.

These are not uncommon in New Zealand. It is a good idea, especially for small spaces.
