Great Escape: Tree House Lodge
Costa Rica

As Great Escape month winds down, I've started thinking about my own escape soon to come. It's about time I began sifting through the bookmarked websites and saved magazine clippings and start planning - especially considering the vast array of stellar lodging options in Costa Rica. In no time I found this gorgeous hideaway, too beautiful not to share...

View From Inside the 800 sq ft Bathroom

The Tree House Lodge is situated on 10 acres of oceanfront property in Punta Uva, on the Caribbean coast. The complex is made up of four separate houses, each with their own private beach. The houses all have a handcrafted feel, but perhaps the most distinguishing features are the bathrooms; One houses a 100 year-old tree growing in the center of it, another is a whopping 800 square feet with a sea-horse jacuzzi! And no surprise here, the lodge is built out of sustainable woods, with many of the fallen trees hauled out of the jungle by oxen. Now, if I could only afford it. The price for two people ranges from $200 - $390 per night.

Back to square one for me. Does anyone have a special Costa Rican accommodation they'd like to share?

When I was in Costa Rica in 2003 I stayed at this awesome resort http://www.drakebay.com/index.php

It was beautiful and seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. We went at a time when you couldn't get there by car, so we had to take a small-ish motor boat with all our luggage down a river. Then we had to brave the open ocean for a little bit to get there. It was crazy! There was a couple there and the husband that did dolphin tours. They were so nice and they had the cutest daughter. everything was very personal and I had a great time. Might be kind of expensive to get there since it's so far out from a lot of stuff. They have lots of tour opportunities, snorkeling, scuba diving, and just chilling on an island in the middle of the ocean. They have a cute little bar area too. :-)

Another adorable town I stayed in was the surfer town of Dominical. They have cheap hostels but also some fabulous cabinas to rent. I think this is the one I stayed in http://www.dominical.biz/Cabins_B_J/index.htm

Kimberly...new to AT and glad to see B-more represented! Although, this tree house post makes me want to move out of the city (but not yet) !

You should definitely do a post on Paper Moon Diner! I bet it would be a HIT here!
