DC Greenworks: Green Roofs, Rainbarrels & Rain Gardens

GreenRoofSilverSPring.jpg

We've blogged about green roofs before at AT (DC, Chicago, and NY); now we thought we would share information on a DC-based non-profit that can design and install a green roof system for your home or business...

DC Greenworks is a nonprofit that serves the Washington, D.C. community by providing training, tools, and technologies that utilize, advance, and protect the environment. If you would like to add a green roof or rain garden to your property, DC Greenworks can help with structural assessments, plans, and installation.

DC Greenworks has also received a grant from the District Department of the Environment, Watershed Protection Division to provide green roof demonstration subsidies of up to $ 3.00 a square foot. The program takes rolling applications, and the next deadline is January 15, 2009. Subsidies are available for extensive and intensive green roof projects, new roofs and retrofits within the Combined Sewer Overflow Zone (CSO) in the District of Columbia.

The DC Greenworks website has pictures of local green roof installations and a great deal of information about the green roof system if you are interested in learning more.

This is so brilliant. I could see the idea in the picture working very well in the pacific northwest, with all the constant drizzle. And you wouldn't be in danger or having your drainpipe getting clogged.
