Home Composting Made Easier in Central Virginia

CVWMAcomposting.jpg

If you live in Richmond or the surrounding towns and counties, the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) wants to make home composting an even more attractive option for you. Residents of the 13 member jurisdictions of the CVWMA are eligible to purchase select home composting bins at a discount from two online retailers...

Residents of the region pictured above can choose from four different compost bins. Covered Bridge Organic offers residents a 30 percent discount on the Soil Saver and the Wishing Well. Solarcone offers discounts on the Green Cone and the Green Johanna composting bins.

The CVWMA believes home composting will help reduce the need to collect yard waste for recycling. We think this discount program is a great way to get people involved in composting, and hope other local municipalities establish similar programs in the future.

Our local County Council (in Wales, UK) is in the process of delivering a free compost bin to every house in the county. Now that's encouragement!

I now have two compost bins, makes it easier to turn the piles!

Woo hoo go Richmond! If I had a bigger yard I would totally get one but my townhouse yard is a bit small for those big ones.

Would any Virginia resident be willing to pass on their discount to a DC-dweller (perhaps for cookies or some other baked good)? Our group house has been wanting to compost for some time now but the high price of compost bins has always gotten in the way.

I don't understand why compost bins are so expensive in the first place. They seem to be not much more than ventilated trash cans.
