Solar Powered UV Onion Lamp

This new design by Shanghai design student Yun Li is a unique take on a solar powered lamp. The layered device absorbs solar power during the day, then gives it off when the device is separated in two after dark....

The UV Onion Lamp contains solar cells that transforms the UV rays into electricity that is used to power an ultra-violet LED lightbulb. We look forward to seeing more innovative designs by Yun Li in the future.

What do you think? Would you display the UV Onion in your home?

That's really cool. I'd want one if it were affordable -- Montreal is prone to regular black-outs.
