tour2009.jpgIt is not every day that you meet Punk Rockers turn Furniture Dealers! I was lucky to meet these two passionate people in their gorgeous furniture shop in Hamburg months ago. When they speak of the craftsmanship of every item, poetically, you are seduced to a place where IKEA does not exist and every item has a story to tell.

Manfred used to own a club on the legendary St Pauli strip (where the Beatles became famous) and soon after meeting them you realize; they live their philosophy: "maybe life actually is rock 'n roll".
After retiring from the night life they turned their hands to Scandinavian furniture and their passion for the beautiful pieces is infectious. They have turned an old Farmhouse into a work of art, an installation that will take your breath away! To visit their shop go to: Wohnkultur66.

AT Survey:

My/Our Style: Still, black.

Inspiration: My parents bought the house in the 70s when it was very fashionable to have one.

Favorite Element: Fireplace

Biggest Challenge: The 25000 m2 outside the house

What Friends Say: They find it too big

Biggest Embarrassment: Marten! They should stay in the forest!

Proudest DIY: I'm fixing a hole, where the rain gets in...(remember the Beatles?)

Biggest Indulgence: All the space

This place is amazing! Architecture of this house is gorgeous and the location looks beautiful. I love all the mid-century furniture and the wooden monkeys. Where are they from? Who makes these?

The monkey was designed by Kay Bojesen in 1951. It's made in Denmark from teak and limbawood.

This is lovely, but it gives me serious space envy. No amount of clean lined furniture would bring my housebarge this much lightness and breath. Still I am very glad it exists and that you shared it with us!

This is the very first house tour that has me excited and dying of envy. The furniture works so well with the house and each space is interesting and totally inviting. Love it.

Just checked on the monkeys at DWR. $200! Gahh. See, I remember my oldest brother having one when I was a kid, when they were, y'know, just toys. Nostalgia isn't just bittersweet, it's damned expensive.

You should see the 30" one for $1000.

Martens come into their house?!?! I wouldn't find that embarrassing, just perplexing.

Looks great, but as PrettyKitty said, where is all their stuff? I can understand cleaning up before the photographer comes over, but this almost too tidy - it doesn't look like people live here.

I cannot imagine having that much space! (probably since i live in a tiny little San Francisco studio..your place=15 of my sized studios! haha) Thanks for sharing with us!

Stunningly rare style, great color. Nothing is here that shouldn't be, and everything is here that should. The proliferation of chairs is such a good idea, and the combinations are so intereresting. You get the sense that the atmosphere was more important than any one object, although each object was important. And yet, this style could only work in this house. Shape, scale, texture, color...I would love to see more imagination like this. A rare A-plus!

Ooh, love it - I actually dislike this style, but it's so well done in this house, and works so well with the old farmhouse architecture, that it looks amazing!

Does anyone know, what is the painting on the wall in the dining room picture? I've googled the artists mentioned in the post, but can't seem to find it. Anyone?

The interior is beautiful. I love the exposed wooden beams. I'm just wondering what the outside of the house looks like?

A modern hansel and gretel story book. The picture of the chair outside facing the water so beautiful I would be afraid I would never leave.
