Name: lepapillonvert
Location: Johns Island - Charleston, South Carolina
The house was built in the late 30's by my great grandfather. We moved our things in at the end of January last year. They sat for another two months until we were able to start living out here on a full time basis. We worked very hard for about a month cleaning, clearing and painting 3 rooms. It was not long after that we discovered that our time here was very limited and halted all subsequent plans. I am pleased with how everything turned out.

We tend to incorporate a lot of different elements in our home. This house has a very traditional feel to it and I found that we drifted in that direction when we moved in to the house. We find it to be warm and inviting. Many things were found in the trash, scored from eBay or thrifted.

Thanks, lepapillonvert!

We've had amazing response to our Apartment Therapy House Tour Submission Form that we launched last month. While we will work with homeowners of our favorite homes to feature full tours, we will also share the best as House Calls — short, quick tours of readers' homes. Submit your home here.

Wow! I love this. What is the paint you used in the dining room? Could you share the manufacturer, color name, or any information that would help me duplicate it?

the pops of red... the swagging of the light fixtures... very nice

i might find a new home for the big statue, though - he's in a scary spot

Lovely colors used here...the only thing I don't like is the table over the bed...it reminds me of a hospital....but other than that...

The bedroom wall paint color please?

Very pretty. I've got a similar blue in my bedroom and need to get away from the builder's beige.

You should see the loft in Atlanta that this family used to live in. I hope lepapillonvert doesn't mind me putting up this link to the pictures of her old place--I found them on saucydwellings and I just fell in love with it.

Hope it's okay--thanks!

Thanks everyone and thank you Aaron for the posting our home.

rapunzel & kelleyk, I will track down the colors for both the bedroom and dining room. They're both Valspar paints from Lowe's. The cans have been disposed of but the swatches are stashed away. I just have to find them. :)

Kuan Yin will eventually make it out to the garden when we have a protected alcove.

while all is beautiful, there's something about the chairs that make me really jealous... great house, lovely and original and perfect in its execution.

rbeirbel, you comment must have gone up just as mine was. Thank you for your lovely comment. I don't mind the link at all.

Aad, those trash scores are some of my favorite items in the house.

Awesome use of Ikea! No one would guess that some of the pieces are so inexpensive in context... well, unless they had everything by Ikea memorized like me.

Oh, I LOVE the colours and the atmosphere. My favourite - the seat thingies in front of the sofa the table over the bed. Beautiful home - thanks for sharing!

I found the color swatches! The bedroom is 'Hot-Crossed Bun' by American Tradition and the dining room is 'Pale Cowslip 5' by Laura Ashley. Both are from Lowe's. Boy, was I way off. :)

notyou - the outside is so not ready for photographs.

Thanks again.

I really like this house, original and cozy. One weird observation: is that Buddha sculpture way too heavy for the coffee table behind the sofa or is it the photo? It seems like the table is bent a little bit.

Let me say that the wall colors and the decor is absolutely stunning. So unlike the typical Southern home that is usually filled with smothering genteelness and no bravado as yours has.

Thank you!

tomurcuk - the bust is fairly light considering it's size. The warping in those shelves came from a few years of heavy books and heavy knick-knacks on top. She probably didn't help straighten things out. I'm not sure if it's a flaw in the positioning of the wheel bases, the humidity, or both perhaps. The wheels are mounted at the edges.

Love that sleek couch under the windows with the beautiful lights hanging on each side and the 3 floor seats. Perfect! The color in the dining room is so warm and beautiful.

This is a good article. But it should also be posted or listed at some point with articles on mixing elements/styles (for the sake of searching). I love the mixing of traditional and modern. It's lovely and practical.

I agree with almost every post above, including the table over the bed....St John's is a very magical place and you've captured its flavor beautifully inside this home.
