2-23-housetourlogo.jpgA sense of calm overtakes you when entering Joe's loft. It's hard to believe that the condo is located in the heart of the busy U Street corridor. When designing his home, Joe extensively researched art deco design. Everything from the paint colors to the home accessories was carefully picked to fit art deco style and also create a calm, comfortable home...

In the 1920's, Egypt was in vogue so Joe created an Egyptian-themed bathroom. He included animal prints in the carpets to echo the art deco taste for exploring world travel. Joe collected tie clips, coins, Egyptian artifacts, vintage posters and other items from the 1920s. He then framed these finds to hang on his walls.

Joe renovated the condo and incorporated the silver doors which are exterior doors and soundproof. He also completely redid the closet and included a laundry room inside of it. The second floor of the condo was made into a bar and reading area. Stepping out onto Joe's large private terrace, you feel like you've entered a secret garden. Joe added fountains, lounge chairs and lots of plants and trees to create a private and very green outdoor space.

I love the red leather set and the entire master bedroom!

But --- that plaid sofa in the office is serious fug. It's gotta go. It's so ugly it's totally distracting.

How cool to have a loft with traditional furniture!
Some of the photos I didn't get (washer & dryer?) but overall looks nice.

Loving the shiny shiny door!

Can anyone tell me what the name for that style of deco/hollywood regency assymetrical upholstered chair is? I don't mean the name of that particular one, I just want to be able to keep an eye out for that style, I have been coveting it for awhile.

This is a delicious space. I love the rose red, and art deco generally. It's so much about style but it sacrifices no comfort.

Joe covered the doors himself with stainless steel, but says that many similar options can be ordered.

I love the art nouveau style, however, it is quite distinct from art deco/80s, which I agree with Mookie, is whats going on here. I like the art deco vanity, very unique. Not feeling the shower curtain though...

Wow, Ive never seen so many conflicting styles in one home before. I love the ca. 1995 post modern bar mixed with the ca. 1985 vase & sofa. The vanity in the living room is the epitome of logic.

Also, I am wholly offended by the faux Jamaica barstools and the Holiday Inn Collection furniture.
