AT first got to see Yokie's condo in the 2008 small cool contest (East # 7: Yokie's Pops of Color). Since then, Yokie has continued updating her home: adding to her bedroom, bathroom and entryway. We got to see the results and are bringing you the full house tour...

Since the small cool contest, Yokie went to Sweden and brought back graphic prints and cushions. She also added a landing strip with a new console table and plants from Garden District. In the bedroom, Yokie got a West Elm bedframe and a new side table, and added furry pillows for texture. She also shuffled around her magazine and book collections. Yokie added Chinese shutters to her bathroom and green Flor tiles throughout her condo. The Asian accents and green floor tiles serve to unify her home.
In her gut renovation, Yokie took the opportunity to add insulating foam in the wall to soundproof her place from neighbor noise. To gain light, Yokie had the ceilings raised and added the glass blocks in the bathroom to allow natural light into the room. She added an extra foot to the kitchen counter so that the longer serves as a breakfast bar. This means she doesn't need a dining table. Yokie also added a washer and dryer to her unit and is very happy with the renovations and updates.

AT Survey:
Style: warm, modern, Palm Springs meets Scandinavia.
Inspiration: design magazines.
Favorite Element: that it's finally renovated and comes together. Also the alcove, orange chair, and lamp in the alcove.
Biggest Challenge: debating over whether to renovate (expensive after just buying the condo) and whether the costs would pay off. The renovation has made a huge difference.
What Friends Say: they were surprised after the renovation. They like my place, say it's sleek, and ask me for help with their places!
Biggest Embarrassment: the wire in the living room. I wanted to hang fabric up to separate the alcove from the living room, but it didn't work.
Proudest Element: I picked out all the finishes and it came together. It's agonizing when you don't know how it'll come together.
Biggest Indulgence: I went high-end on a few pieces, like the Eames low chair (which is not super comfy) and the Knoll end table.
Proudest DIY: Putting up the shelves and the bedframe. Also, converting the Ikea Pax wardrobe into a desk.
Best Advice: Keep it simple. Don't get too themey but make the place cohesive.
Dream Sources: London shops on High Street, prints and ceramics from Stockholm, Vancouver accents, and Australian house architecture!

Looks great!
I'd like to know: in the bedroom, is the sheer paper (?) screening that goes across the bottom half of the windows one piece? Does it stay in place for privacy when the windows are open?
And: where did that sleek, simple console table come from? I've been on a long search but find the prices for such a simple item beyond outrageous.
Thanks for your help Yokie and letting us inside your beautiful home!

Yokie... Great place. I'm interested in the soundproofing mentioned in the writeup. If a fellow DC-er and am looking for a soundproofing solution and contractor to perform the work. Any recommendations you could make would be awesome!
You can hit me at tigidal@gmail.com if it's not too much trouble. Thanks!

Lovely home, but please, cover your box spring on your bed. A fitted sheet would work well.

Hi everyone. Itâs Yokie. Thanks for your comments and thanks to Rachael for a nice write up! Iâd like to respond to some of your comments:
Window treatments: these are top-down bottom-up light filtering shades from Smith and Noble. In the photo, they have been adjusted to only cover the bottom half of the window, letting light in from the top.
Console table: Portica w/ glass top from Room and Board. This table is well priced and comes in a wide range of custom sizes. Mine is 32x8 29h to fit my small corner landing strip.
Soundproofing: The contractor used Thermabat which is sound deadening (not sound proofing) fibrous material. A new frame was built over the existing wall and padded with the Thermabat, then covered with dry wall.
Boxspring: I know itâs exposed in the photo but it was subsequently covered with a fitted sheet and looks much better. Thanks for the tip though.
Roomba: I cannot say enough about this fantastic appliance! Cleans up cat hair, kitty litter, and crumbs in a snap.
Kitty: She enjoyed being the star of the housetour but the cover shot of her squatting over the bed was probably not the most flattering.

Yokie... Are you free to divulge the name of the contractor you used for the soundproofing? Thanks!

The work was done by a development company, Keener Squire's construction team.
