• 1. There a million things to love about Jeanine of Apartment Therapy: Boston's lovely home, but this makeshift door handle is one of my favorite elements.
• 2. pets in and of themselves always add a little bit of humor to a room, but capturing them in a formal art form like the portrait seems especially witty. I love this example for being a little offbeat and unexpected in an otherwise formal room.
• 3. Humor in a task-oriented place like kitchen is my favorite, and this knife block from Throwzini that I spotted on Shelterrific kills me.
• 4. Impressive and humorous is a winning combination, and Peter's San Francisco Loft (one of my favorite house tours of 2009) is brimming with them. Hi duct tape portrait of Mr. T was just one of Peter's jaw dropping DIYS.
• 5. Juxtaposition of fine and funny is a wonderful way to tie humor and sentiment into a home. I love seeing childhood collections worked into grownup decor like Stephanie did in her sweet Village Gem. Check out the full house tour here.
• 6. Another quirky pet portrait from Patrick of Small Cool 2009 fame.
• 7. Bathroom humor was bound to make it into this post somehow, and this toiletscape was too classic not to include.
• 8. The drawn-on or decal headboard is not so new anymore, but even so I smile whenever I see one. The best minimalist nod to ornate style love. I love this one from Lauren, one of our 2007 Fall Color Contest participants.
• 9. Love this funny monster alternative to the animal skin rug from Longoland.
And what about you, how does humor find itself a place in your home?

hehehe... my latest was last week when I was re-doing our bedroom! I always planned on having my little sheep in the room, but in a spur-of-the-moment decision late one night, I hung them from the wall... and drew silly faces... and made one say "weeee!" :D

The second one (portrait arrangement) really made me laugh out loud, as did the monster skin rug. Oh, to do something like that...

I have a lot of love for this bananna dog because I'm such a fan of the Joost Elffers and Saxton Freymann "veggie reality" imagery.
I also display my Darth Tater and Optimash Prime potatoheads at works.

Just over the toilet my Mum hung a picture of a rooster with “I’m so confused I don’t know which way to point my pecker” printed on it. It made me smile every single time and I’m sure it amused all our guests.

@CozyLittleCave: I LOVE your sheep!
In a previous apartment I shared with three roommates, we often had theme partys. One was "medieval times". In our long hallway, there was this very kitschy rose wallpaper from the previous renter, and it stopped about a foot away from the ceiling. For the party, we painted stone castle battlements on leftover ingrain wallpaper and put them on top of the rose wallpaper. It looked really great and we kept it until we moved out.

Some of this is so cute. We don't have much humor in our decor (sadly), but our den looks like a museum with the stuff the fiance has collected (pyrite, arrow heads, shark tooths, random stones, an actual dead puffer fish, etc)

I think the taxidermy fish above the fireplace in our living room is pretty funny and unexpected:

I have a mannequin that likes to play dress-up for game day and holidays.

CozyLittleCave, how cute! Just the right touch. I have a hard time pulling off humor in the main areas of my home, but the unfinished basement/game room is where all the goofy stuff goes!

I framed a couple prints from "Married to the Sea." They get a lot of unexpected laughs.

I also have some silly-looking cross-stitched frogs my mom did over my kitchen sink. A harmonica on my coffee table.

I've got one of these http://www.amazon.com/Tiki-Head-Tissue-Box-Cover/dp/B0007U8MSA in my guest bath, which always inspires comments.

my very first apartment in college had a 6' x 8' vinyl poster of Fantasia Barrino from that season's American Idol hanging like a tapestry over the couch. My roommate bought it at a garage sale after a beery summer BBQ and it stayed all year. It was awful but I was sad to see it go when we all moved out.

I have the same little finger puppet monsters as Stephanie. I keep them captive in some perfectly sized shot glasses in the pantry. Also have a little jiggly rubber Wolfman and Creature from the Black Lagoon who live in the fruit bowl. They come out when the music overwhelms them and do a jiggly dance on the table.

thanks guys! It was a sudden, random decision to do, but I absolutely LOVE it! No matter how stressed I am, I calm down when I walk in the bedroom lol

I have a huge, hairy plant that looks like it has long green hair. My husband thought he looked like an alien, so I made a pair of eyestalks out of clay and painted them.
