The Washington Post features tips from top DC designers on how to update your home without breaking the bank. Tips include grouping a collection of art or objects together in one room and making a favorite furnishing a focal point by placing it in front of a contrasting wall color. More below the jump...

We think the tips are useful, though we've seen some before, for example, using big patterns in small spaces.
What do you think of the Post's tips? Do you think they are really money savers?

Some of them are useful. I think the re-arranging stuff you already have trend is going to grow ever more popular. The easiest things for me to do is swap my rugs from room to room, change around the artwork and swap the lights. Buy some flat bed sheets on sale, some cheap curtain ring clips and they make nice curtains, even wider than standard panels and the longer length puddles nice on the floor. Or even just swap curtains from one room to another.. so basically, my answer to everything is rotation I guess. My fancy old wine glasses I never use make nice pillar candle holders. I've been thinking of putting some ribbon on my lampshades too in coordinated colors.
