Unique frames, vino, and visual organization are a few of my passions, so spotting a bulletin board combining all three got my wheels spinning. Frat-tastic? It has the potential to be, but in the right frame — something unusual but not too loud or ornate — and in the right setting — a wall without much visual clutter —it could be a witty way of organizing the lists of "to do's" or "to try's" (wines) that inevitably end up cluttering the fridge. Instructions on how to make your own after the jump...
1. Gather wine corks. Depending on the size of your frame you'll need about 50-100. Unless you've had a serious party, this is hopefully probably not something you'd do in one go. You can store them in a glass container for display as you amass your supplies.
2. Cut a piece of peg board or plywood to fit the interior of the frame (your local hardware store will generally do this for you if you know the dimensions).
3. Attach the peg board/plywood to the back of the frame.
4. Using wood glue or a glue gun, glue corks in place either side by side or 2 lengthwise followed by 2 sideways (they look best when the labels show). You may need to cut the a couple of corks (the ones on the side edges) lengthwise to fit the frame (scissors will do the trick)
5. Let the corks dry
6. Hang and get organizing

Hummm, I think I would cut the corks in half long ways to keep the profile down, and you could make a bigger board if you had twice as many corks.

Its like some one was watching us. We thought this would be cute for our kitchen and we have been saving for this exact same project. My fiance works at a German Bistro while going to school, so he collects all of the unique corks from there! We even have them saved in a large, shapely bottle.

I'd go with a black frame I think.

i have also seen this arranged a bit differently. two corks vertical, followed by two corks horizontal. helps deal with variances in the corks size as well as add to the design aspect.

I made one a couple years ago, it was a struggle to find real cork corks since most of our favorite wines had rubber corks or screw caps... a few wine tasting events supplemented our collection though.
I had to cut a couple of them to fit, and even sanded some of the thicker ones down so they wouldn't stick out so much.

This is funny. Wine cork trays and bulletin boards were the thing maybe twenty-five or thirty years ago, and they reemerged in the late 80's/early 90's. Here they are again, now that real wine corks are being replaced by plastic plugs. So who is gong to come up with a use for the plastic plugs?? Huh, AT?
