Ondine Karady Personalizes a Cookie-Cutter Condo
The Washington Post 2.5.09

02-05-1b.jpgThe Washington Post interviews "Top Design" finalist Ondine Karady in her Logan Circle condo. A former set designer, she worked on "Sex and the City" and Spike Lee's "25th Hour," among others. Ondine took home furniture from those sets to decorate her Logan Circle condo, which The Washington Post photographed and labeled "Danish-modern-meets-boho." Do you agree? Ondine also shared tips for making a "cookie-cutter" condo into a home. Read Ondine's tips and find out which of her furniture pieces come from "Sex and the City" below the jump...

Ondine mixed the movie set pieces with vintage furniture and IKEA shelves. She recommends shopping at thrift stores for table lamps; hanging framed artwork to decorate plain walls; and using wallpaper to spruce up a room.

The "Sex and the City" pieces in Ondine Karady's DC condo include: the minimalist oatmeal living room couch was used in Charlotte York's Upper East Side home; the pony-skin bench was made by Aidan Shaw; and illustrations from Russian artist Aleksandr Petrovsky.

I like her style - It's a shame that they put these folks under such extreme time constraints on these shows that they can barely produce out a quality result.

That white couch in the third large picture is way to close to that wall it's facing, very claustrophobic.

What a fun job to have. I couldn't agree with her more about replacing the cheap hardware store lighting fixtures builders use. Easy to do and makes a big difference.

is her condo supposed to be cookie-cutter... or is that something else?

that isn't exactly cookie-cutter. where are her beige wall-to-wall carpets and ugly kitchen counters?

I'm diggin' it: understated but fun and functional. The wallpaper is my favorite.

I really loved Ondine's final product on the show, in fact I think she and Preston were both robbed, but I am seriously underwhelmed by her space. Yawn!

The advice about replacing lights is spot-on. One of our first moves in our first house that was brand new was a trip to IKEA for inexpensive way more interesting lighting fixtures. Made such a huge difference for very little money.
