White Plus Wood: The Cozy Side of a Winter Palette

OK, so it's not winter yet, but this time of year, as I brace my cold-blooded self for chilly season, I always have the same little decor quandary: do I pile on cozy warms colors in the form of throws and pillows or embrace the bright spareness that comes when all the leaves fall off the trees and unhindered natural light comes streaming in? These warm white rooms having me leaning toward the latter...

We often think of white as a summertime color, however adding warm raw cuts of wood, natural rugs, a few bright green plants, and layers of texture in the form of slubby linens and chunky wools, as well as a few dark accent pieces can keep a mostly white palate from seeming chilly.

What's your take?

My favorites are #1 and 6 -
- what I'd imagine a house in Big Sur to look like...

...but all of these are oh-so do-able for folks who are "stuck" in all-white apartments and can't paint.

Love the photos! I decorate with a white scheme year round and don't find it boring or cold at all. It's easy to change the feel of my rooms seasonally by using rougher textures and to accent with darker browns, blacks and greys during fall and winter. When I've had enough of winter, I'm ready for a change - and lighten the feel for spring and summer with wispy voiles, glass, silver, bleached beach woods, and pale blues, greens and greys.

I always wanted to do my dining room like this- but ended up going a TOTALLY different route based on chairs I had & not being able to get as good a deal on the ones I originally wanted. However, love what I ended up with anyway!

I prefer more of a cream but those are right up my alley! I love the look of wood either stained or left naked. In fact, I don't own a piece of painted wood furniture because I love the natural texture wood grain imparts.

Thanks for showing those, great for the inspiration file.

I was thinking of getting one of these over size 'anglepoise' lamps. Has anyone used one? Do they cast a nice light?

Nothing brightens up the dark winter like a clean, crisp white room!

I second the question; who made the lamp in the first picture?!?! It's perfect for our scheme.

It's not the same one, but this Pottery Barn lamp is a similar concept: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/architects-floor-lamp/?pkey=call-table-floor-lamps

One last try to ID this lamp --- if anyone knows or has an idea of how to track it down I'd really appreciate it

Thanks
