A Different Kind of DIY Art

TshirtFrames.jpg

We came across this picture when browsing though one of our favorite eye-candy sites, and were immediately struck by the nostalgic feel of the art on display. Imagine our surprise when we found out exactly what we were looking at...

Framed vintage t-shirts, that's what we were looking at! Urban Outfitters is selling these t-shirt frames for $20 each, but we suspect you could get the same effect from cheaper Ribba frames at IKEA (depending on the size of the graphic on your shirts). If you are one those people who just can't let go of your old concert and other tees even though you no longer wear them, this might be the perfect solution. We love that this is an art collection that could truly track the development of your personal design aesthetic/musical taste/etc.

If you don't want to cut up your classic tees, this DIYer shows how to use inexpensive acrylic box frames to display just the graphic while hiding the rest of the shirt.

Has anyone out there attempted such a project? If so, we'd love to see some pictures uploaded to the DC Flickr group...

About a year ago I got twelve of these record frames for about 3 bucks each at the christmas tree shop to frame each picture of my favorite calender from the year before. But we also used the frames for my boyfriend's bands merch. We framed each display tshirt so the merch table didn't look like a wreck, and they were easy to hang on our grids.

What is this Christmas Tree Shop y'all speak of? It sounds awesome. SO deprived out here! (okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, but still - wanna see this place... where are they?)

Why didn't I think of this? My husband has a drawer full of old t-shirts from concerts, high school, etc. that he can't bear to part with, but which he can't/won't wear. I'm going to frame them (with his permission, of course) and hang them in his study.

This is a totally awesome idea. I have so many t-shirts that even even wearable anymore and I really can't throw them away (too many memories). I would totally hang them on my wall... :)
