When I was a kid, my family would go visit my mothers family during the summertime. On one of those trips, my dad and I were in a corner store as a woman begged the shopkeep to lend her the bread she wanted to feed her kids. My dad put the money on the store counter, and didn't say anything about it. I was stunned. People actually did good deeds without looking for recognition, but just to make a positive, though minor, impact onto the world...
It remains as a constant memory/inspiration to do what's right, in helping those that need assistance, without thinking about credit.

I’m a single mom and always have been. About 16 years ago, when my now 21-year-old daughter was five, we had an artificial Christmas tree that was obviously artificial. Better designs had come out since I had purchased it, probably 10 years earlier. I really wanted a new one and found one on sale at my local K-Mart for 25% off. Unfortunately, the store was out of that model, so I figured we’d be using our same old tree. The following week we were at another K-Mart and found the same tree on sale for 33% off, plus it was in stock, so we bought it! Now, what to do with our old tree? Surely someone needed a Christmas tree.
That Monday I called a local furniture bank to see if they’d want it, but they were closed on Mondays. So I tried again Tuesday. When I talked to the lady who answered, she was very silent for what seemed like a long time and then she told me that a family was just in looking for a Christmas tree; they had actually just left. They had just moved from very yucky housing to something a little nicer, but didn’t have the money for a tree. The furniture bank didn’t have a tree to give them until I called. The next day I took the tree to the furniture bank.
I can honestly say it was the best Christmas present I ever received.
