We found this wonderful Grand Chiffonier when browsing Aria's website and fell instantly in love. Handmade to order by French craftsmen, this solid cherry dresser can be completely customized with the colors of your choice. Unfortunately, the £2350 price tag and the fact that the dresser is across the ocean mean we are unlikely to be adding this piece to our collection...
We do however think this is an excellent inspiration for a DIY project. A quick search of Craigslist produced the gem at the left for only $25; add in the price of paint and you've got a truly beautiful dresser at a small fraction of the price of the original. We have no space right now for another dresser, but are keeping this project in reserve for a possible January Jumpstart...
Do you have a DIY that was inspired by a particular piece that was either out of your price range or simply unavailable? If so, mail pictures (of both the inspiration and your interpretation if possible) to colleen@apartmenttherapy.com and we'll highlight them in future Inspiration/Interpretation posts.

This is the second day in a row that the Washington DC post has been about a piece of furniture unavailable in the United States. By definition, anyone on this site knows how to cruise the internet--could we have DC posts that would either showcase DC design or help people in the district find design resources?

These are really fashionable here in France, I see them in every expensive furniture store. Transitional style chiffoniers in black with colored drawers?. They are just as expensive here too, event without export...

mvdc- I thought the post was less about the piece of unavailable furniture, and more about using a piece of unavailable furniture as a jumping off point for a DIY.
I do miss the posts on stores in DC though- it seems like we haven't had one for a while. overall the NY pages seem pretty jammed with all the DC and Boston posts. I hope those two branch out into separate pages soon so that we can get back to lots of local content...
