Mom's New Yellow Kitchen

MomKitchenAfter1.jpg

Just in time to wrap up Color Month here at ATDC, we finally finished the "casual kitchen cure" we began this summer. We really appreciated all the helpful suggestions from AT readers, and tried to incorporate some of them in the redesign. We're still on the lookout for fabric so we can reupholstery the chairs, but otherwise we're pretty happy with the results...

We cleared the clutter off the front of the fridge, relegating Mom's beloved magnets to the side. The microwave cart was reorganized, and we are on the lookout to replace it with a piece that has closed storage.

The Ikea pot rack is our favorite kitchen project as before the pots and pans were all on (or in) the stove!

We got rid of the large trashcan that used to sit under the window, and replaced it with this small unit that slips into the space between the wall and the stove- out of sight and easier to empty!

We got rid of the extra shelving unit in the dining room which definitely helped reduce the visual clutter. We painted the soffit white in order to give the wall some visual interest. We still hope to hang a light above the dining room table, but that may be a project for the spring...

lovely, great job. quick question, though...won't the stove melt the waste bin? that's a great spot for it, but perhaps if it were metal?

instead of searching for a new microwave cart with covered starage, why dont you just tack up some pretty fabric around the front and sides... i think itd look niccee. :)

really looks great and love the color on the walls!

i think deeboy has a good suggestion if your Mom would go for it. that looks like a very nice mwave stand and it would be worth keeping if she agrees. and velcro wont ruin it if she doesnt like the fabric.

Or, in a similar vein, putting some doors on the front of the cart (since the sides aren't really seen) could work. Nice job.

Very nice. The color is gorgeous, and really brightens up the room. Also, the pot racks look great too.

I don't understand why you would need so much privacy in a kitchen?...
