Hi-Light Task Lamp from Pottery Barn Teen

PBTeenLamps.jpg

We love this time of year because so many retailers offer a wide array of colorful home accessories aimed at kids heading off to college. Though most of the stuff we've seen is either unnecessary or unnecessarily cute, we have fallen in love with the many colors of this desk lamp from PBTeen...

This task lamp is available in a stunning 10 color options meaning it should match just about any decor. This metal lamp takes a 60W bulb and we love that the three pivot points can be locked in place when needed. Normally $74 each, the Hi-Light Task Lamp is currently on sale for $65. We can definitely imagine the brighter colors adding a great pop to a home office- that yellow lamp would be certainly be reason enough to start the day with a smile.

Have you found any back-to-school items you would like to incorporate into your decor? If so, please share with us below.

Nice lamps, but are they really priced for *students* ? (More for their parents, I'd say.)

The clip-on versions are a lot cheaper but the problem with both lamps is that they take non-standard bulbs that aren't available in compact fluorescents. They only take bulbs with a tiny chandelier base and only the globe chandelier bulbs (as opposed to the flame bulbs) fit inside the shade. The main problem I've got with the type of bulbs that they take is that I don't seem to have any stores in my neighborhood that sell working versions of these bulbs. Since I've had these lamps (about a year) I've only managed to buy ONE bulb that actually works (buying from four different stores); all of the others are dead on arrival. I've bought and returned at least 30 or 40 bulbs and had only one work (which still works, but then, I hardly ever bother to turn on the lamps). As a last ditch effort, I found a website that sells fluorescent globe bulbs with the right base only to find that the fluorescent version of these have a larger diameter than the incandescent ones and they don't fit inside the hemispherical shade.

I'm going to try to sell the lamps--and the useless fluorescent bulbs--on CraigsList. I really think it would have been nice if PBTeen had explained what sort of bulb the lamps take on the website or in the catalogue; I've have stayed far away from these lamps if I'd known.

They are poor rip-offs of the classic Jielde lamp in any case.

65 dollars for a jointed desk lamp? Not for those majoring in Economics, I guess.

They are cute but they're not that much cuter than the 15-20 dollar ones I've seen all over the place.

VERY poor rip off of the Jielde lamp. Agree MrCranky. Also this exact post has been seen here on A.T. at least twice before.

i just got this lamp in white (gift card) and while it's cute in our guest bedroom, the bulb issue was completely annoying. after managing to find the right kind at Target, I too went through about 2 or 3 before one actually worked. I was afraid the lamp was busted but it was the bulbs.
