Look!: Ikea Room Divider = Anthropologie Chandelier!
Washington DC

6-4-rach ikea.jpgWe recently bought an Ikea Hultet room divider and have been stalling on installing it. We were wondering whether to paint it, how high to hang it (so the pets don't destroy it), and all the other usual considerations.

Then last week, while strolling through Anthropologie in Georgetown, we were thrilled to come across this gorgeous chandelier made out of the very same Hultet room divider collecting dust in our living room!

We've long admired the creative displays at the Georgetown Anthropologie and...

this latest discovery was cause for pulling out the camera. We love how Anthropologie wrapped the Hutlet circular strands around the lamp shade frame, allowing the strands to dangle both inside and outside the frame. The neutral color and interesting texture make the room divider an unexpected and beautiful material for an elegant chandelier.

The Hutlet room divider is not yet on the Ikea website but is available in the College Park, MD store. Other Hutlet products are on the IKEA website.

Is this different from what they call the Hultet Drape?

It is ridiculously fugly, something straight out of a John Waters movie.

Anyone who owns such an enormous fixture should be morally obligated to sublease the interior space to a homeless person.

It looks like a lifesize cornhusk doll. Maybe all of the cornhusk dolls ever made are actually idols designed to make this one come alive. And kill us all.

But to be fair, I bet it was cool in person.

ok don't judge, but I kind of thought of doing this myself even before this post came out....also using the hutlet drape, but on a much smaller scale. I wanted to go for the look of west elm's capiz shell light fixture: http://www.westelm.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?partNumber=WE-PRODp219&storeId=17001&langId=-1&catalogId=17002&viewSetCode=E&parentId=WE-SH1SLEWAL&retainNav=true&cmsrc=WE-SH1SLEWAL

STOP promoting Anthropologie. Terrible company. Dysfuntional Vampire Sorority. Racist Dpmestically, and Exploitive Overseas. Their "creative" displays are ripped off from fine artist exhibitions.

Hilarious--I bought one of them a few years ago thinking it would make a cool wall hanging but never did anything with it for the same reasons. My husband finally made me give it away.

Oh god, leave Anthro alone. It's just a store, everyone rips off everyone else all the time....you lost me on the "Vampire" bit though.

oh man, it's not often i say this on AT, but that first picture literally gives me the chills. up close it's not as bad but from far away it looks like some kind of disgusting porous sea creature. that is just about the last thing i could stand having in my home.
