Look!: Antique Art Store Pigment Cabinets

10-10-art-1.jpg
In honor of color month, we're sharing with you our fantasy antique furniture piece: a paint pigment cabinet. These cabinets were used in art stores to hold oil paint pigments sold to fine artists. As an artist and design addict, we love this antique! More photos and info below the jump...

10-10-art-3.jpg The antique art store pigment cabinet is from Germany (possibly 18th century) and was bought at Darrell Dean Antiques in Georgetown. We saw it at the Artists Inn Residence in Dupont Circle.

Below is an Italian artists pigment cabinet from the 19th century (also from Darrell Dean Antiques). Each drawer shows the color that was stored inside.

Have you seen any art store pigment cabinet or other interesting art-related antique furniture? Please share!

Gorgeous !

Antique shop furniture has become so popular and looked for, especially when it's specialized and "antiqued" like this, has become impossible to find in France, except if you have a small fortune.

That's totally covetable. Which isn't really a word, but who's counting.

I have a vintage "gentleman's tool cabinet" in which I house my (small) CD collection. It's pretty plain looking, but is of nice wood, and has an adorable keyhole with key. I keep wanting to repurpose it yet again for something that will get more use. (mp3s don't take up much space, do they?)
